Does JotCache Plugin need to always be active 06 Dec 2012 15:55 #93

My site has over 50,000 pages cached with Jotcache. I programatically control when a page changes and cache is deleted. At that point I use jotcache plugin to recreate those cached pages.

Can I leave the plugin off when I am not caching new pages or is it necessary for the cached pages to be utilized by unregistered/logged on users?

JotCache plugin (the same behavior has core System-Cache plugin) when disabled cannot deliver/process cached page content to site users. All site requests are fully processed with web server without any page caching. Here it is necessary to remark that no changes are performed on cached pages (they retains also original expiration time).

Besides deleting cached pages in JotCache you have also other method for refreshing cached pages with new content :

1. as administrator use Mark feature of JotCache (click on SET Mark button)

2. update selected pages - your changes are not cached and you see immediately the result

3. on frontend visit all pages with updated content as well as related pages (e.g. category list, etc.)

4. coming back to backend Jotcache Management view (component) use Select Mark selection 'Yes' - all visited pages are now selected and prepared for group delete. Make delete and on frontend shall be with first request created cached page with new content.
