"Error on displaying the error page" 06 Jun 2017 14:06 #1957

Hi,
today our webapplication crached on our server due to a high amount of SELECT * FROM #__jotcache request. The table contains 178,131 datasets. - We have a rather huge online shop page. - Momentarily I disabled the JotCache Plugin.

We did non run the JotCache Cronjobs. -
This is how MySQL activity summed up after activation of JotCache:
monosnap.com/file/VzPnI9Dthz3iIiSthZVKtXcp1mT9V5

- Is this a misconfiguration of JotCache from my side?
- Is JotCache not suited for large websites?
- Is there a design problem in JotCache, i. e. connection to database on each request?

Thanks for some insights.

Kind regards,
Bernhard

At first is necessary to mention that JotCache was not developed with special care to high load (no load distribution, no DB request caching, etc.). It can be used (and it is used) on large websites but several measures is necessary to do:
1. decrease number of active (non-expired) page caches with:
- proper setup of .htaccess to allow only ONE http protocol and domain for the website
- using JotCache plugin parameter 'Domain Filter'
- using JotCache plugin parameter 'Exclude URLs with Query String' when possible
- narrowing scope of cached paged to homepage and categories and some very often visited pages with JotCache component 'Exclude URL' setup
2. use cron job for regular page cache cleaning
3. decrease JotCache plugin parameter 'Cache Lifetime' or/and use 'Extra Cache Lifetimes' feature to split pages to groups with different expiration time.
